Garden Oaks Robotics Club

Garden Oaks Robotics Club competed on November 21st at the Hogg MS Robotics Challenge! Coach Modad and the EagleRobots did a phenomenal job!

Good day everyone:

As you know, we will be attending the FIRST Lego League Tournament this Saturday November 21st. In this email I have attached the schedule for our activities, and forms that need to be filled out for each of the children, by you their parents.

Let's start with the logistics, the tournament is on November 21st. That is this Saturday. The location of the tournament is Hogg Middle School in the Heights. The address is: 1100 Merrill St Houston, TX 77009-6099.

The overall schedule is:
7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Arrival and Registration
8:30 a.m. – 8:50 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. Rounds 1, 2, and 3 and all judging
12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. Lunch
1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Double Elimination and Final Rounds
3:30 – 4 p.m. Awards Ceremony

If at all possible, please plan on having the kids stay all day at the tournament so they can have the full experience.

We will have 3 matches on the game field where two kids will drive the robot.
Those match times are at: 9 AM, 10:16 AM, 10:48 AM.

We will also have to a presentation, which we will schedule @ 11:30 AM.

More about the day of the tournament:
Each team has a pit area where they can sit during the day, and where they will prepare their robot. We will be located in Pit #36. The pits are not that big, 10'x10', and I plan on using this area for the team to hang out while we wait for our scheduled matches and presentation.

This will be a long day, thus the kids are welcome, and will need to bring books, writing materials, cameras, and yes even their handheld gaming systems (Nintendo DS, PSP, etc.) to help pass the time away.

Hogg Middle school hosts this event as a fund raiser for their robotics program, thus will be selling concessions (you know the kind :) ). If you would like to support Hogg, please bring money for concessions. Otherwise, please have your child pack snacks for the day.

Now for the forms:
There are two forms attached that will need to be filled out before we arrive at the tournament. I have attached them both to the email. If you could please have those forms to me by Tuesday that would be helpful.

One other note:
At these tournaments each team typically creates items to pass out to other teams (pins, ribbons, fliers, stickers, etc.) We will be doing this on Thursday and Friday afternoon @ 3 PM, we could some help from any parents who can make time to help us.

On Friday afternoon, will you please come to the computer room for a 5 PM presentation and show and tell by the kids. They are very proud of their work and would like you all to see it. We will also have a quick coordination meeting regarding the day of the tournament.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help and supporting your child in this experience.

Best regards,

Chad Modad
